Week 6 – 26/10/21

The Group Project

During the walk around The Claypits Local Nature Reserve my group and I felt it would be interesting to explore the relationship between the powerlines and the nature.

Around 1935 the row of pylons were erected over the Forth & Clyde Canal and the surrounding wasteland. Over the years these powerlines stopped the site from being redeveloped or built on, like the rest of the area surrounding the canal. The wasteland is now The Claypits Local Nature Reserve, Glasgow’s only inner city nature reserve. While at first they seem in opposition, in reality neither would exist without the other.

To best show the link between the pylons and the nature we decided on using a set of shots side by side, using visual rhymes like colour, movement and composition to pair them up. While this two shot wide frame does do the job of highlighting the link between the two elements of the film, it does make it the wrong size for the social media we had initially considered for posting the project on, Instagram, the frame is so wide that the images end up too small to get the point across.
