Another Draft
Been continuing to edit, mostly score related stuff – been playing around with different stuff in Ableton trying to see what works for me. I’ve got the score for the first scene at Felix’s house to a place I am quite happy with, I need to record the voiceover and see how it works with that next and then maybe add some foley as the footage feels quite disconnected from the audio, so some footsteps and creaking floorboards will tie the two together nicely.
Have also added an introduction to the film, this still needs work and will probably only be temporary, but I do like the idea of starting outside the camp and just seeing houses through the trees. I need to work out how to go from this to inside the camp though as its quite an unnatural jump at the moment.
I have also added a new scene to this draft, while going through my footage I realised that the stuff I filmed in the Rugby Pavilion was stronger than I first thought, and the big windows looking out at the field and St Boniface Church in the distance work really well for showing the condition of JHQ without relying completely on interiors. For this scene I was looking for some other audio to use as the basis for the score and I found a BFBS news report about the closure of JHQ which I decided to use, using this in a final cut would raise quite a lot of copyright issues but at the moment I really like it, the news report feels like quite a smart way to get across more context about JHQ without me having to give a history lesson, which wouldn’t really fit in with the other stuff I am planning on saying in my voiceover. I still need to decide what to do, if anything, to the footage from the Rugby Pavilion.
