Academic Question Revisions
I currently don’t really have a concrete academic question, so have been brainstorming what it is I want to achieve and what my keywords are so I can better pin down what my academic question is.
Key Words
– Evoke
– Memory
– Debordian Montage (unsure if what I’ve got really counts as Debordian Montage, not a huge amount of stoppage and repetition, mostly just repetition)
– Childhood
The aims of the film
– To express my thoughts and memories regarding JHQ, my childhood home; thoughts and memories which are personal to my experience while also being somewhat universal – leaving JHQ at 13 was like an exaggerated version of the end of childhood
– To highlight the possible dangers and emotional trauma that comes with trying to reconnect with memory – its best to leave these memories in the past, going back to see what has become of things isn’t worth it
– To put together a series of film-making techniques which could be applied to another location, person or event – the drifting camera, the voice-over and score; effects such as the frame size shrinking, blurring images and other effects I have yet to explore; a pairing of footage from the present day and a limited selection of archive etc.
Attempting to evoke a version of lost childhood memories (using techniques related to Debordian Montage)
Devising a mode of film-making that evokes lost memory
An attempt to represent lost childhood memories
None of these are quite it but I think they are closer than I have previously been.
