Launching the GoFundMe
After a week looking at funding, I decided it would be as good a time as any to launch my GoFundMe. I had been thinking that crowd funding would be a useful way to fund my film for a while, and had made a start on some concepts for possible rewards. These designs included a badge and T-Shirt with the slogan ‘I wish Conor McBride would shut the hell up about ‘Leaving JHQ Rheindahlen Behind’ – a sentiment I’m sure many of my friends and classmates who will be following the project along will agree on by the time it is complete – and a series of prints featuring a Lego rendered version of my old house from JHQ in front of a series of remote, barren, and desolate landscapes taken from Google Earth.

I sourced some suitable places to have the items made, worked out some appropriate price brackets to put the items in, and launched the campaign. I decided it would be best to operate on a pre-order system for the rewards, as in the past when I have made and distributed items such as zines and T-Shirts I have either been left with unsold stock, or not had enough to meet the demand. I also began to look into what exactly the money would need to be spent on; flights to Germany, accommodation, additional equipment needed for the production and any post-production expenses. Bearing all this, and the costs for producing the rewards, in mind I settled on £700 as a reasonable target to aim for.
